I have over 22 years experience of teaching within health and fitness: classes and privately. I began in Private health clubs and have now been running my own studio: Emma Martin Pilates, for over 15 years.

I've always loved understanding how the body can move and I am never ceased to be amazed with what Pilates teaches us and how it progresses us through healthy movement. It benefits posture and alignment, enables us to move and perform better and move more easily and healthily through every day activities, as well as perform and recover better from other sport and exercise you enjoy.

It’s wonderful for overall physical and mental well being and is so accessible. Anyone can do Pilates if it’s taught well: all levels and capabilities. Those new to Pilates, rehabilitating or returning from injury or illness and also those of you looking for a more challenging, fitness aspect or as a powerful addition to sports specific training, enhancing sport & exercise performance as well as off setting any postural impact that this training may have.

My journey into health and fitness began in the aerobics & dance fitness studio and the personal training gym environment as both group fitness teacher and personal trainer. Alongside this, I took a Masters degree in sport and exercise nutrition, joined the team of a professional teacher training company and helped develop and write several professional qualification courses for a leading industry training provider as teacher trainer, mentor and assessor for accredited fitness certifications including Pilates, exercise to music and Nutrition for Sport and Exercise and Weight management.

Since I started my own studio in 2005, my focus has been making pilates accessible, effective and fun!

I am passionate about Pilates and continually update and enrich my own professional development and skills in Pilates . I've trained with a number of schools including American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), APPI and Body Control Pilates in London and more recently pilates equipment training with Lisa Bradshaw and Body Control and I practice Pilates myself, most days.

I now specialise in running a Private Pilates Studio for individual sessions, using both the Mat and Equipment Classical Pilates exercises.

Your private session is completely personal to your goals and capabilities. I work with absolute beginners, those returning or rehabilitating after an injury or illness, older adults, individuals with previous Pilates experience and those with an advanced focus to compliment their training.

I offer the full benefit of the pilates repertoire on the Pilates equipment: Using spring resistance of the equipment will enhance, challenge, support and assist your strength and control of your movement potential during a full body workout of Pilates exercises.

My studio includes use of the Reformer, ‘Wunda’ Chair and Tower (Cadillac) and Springboard as well as other small studio equipment as appropriate.

My personal approach to private teaching Pilates is vital for an individual focus on correct and effective technique, modifications and progressions and to enable you to find your movement potential and progression to optimise your pilates goals and objectives.

Private sessions ensure a one to one focus is maintained and enables you to progress appropriately. My approach is always fun and relaxed, but we work hard!

My private studio is based at my home in Epsom. It’s specially designed to invite private sessions for you as an individual or with a friend as a duets or Trio.
